I had a shoot set up for this Monday just gone, September 26th, with an incredible team (the same from my shoot with Lykke plus Jenni's friend Aaron to do hair, and the lovely Hannah assisting) although unfortunately the model was ill, so we had an insane dash to find a replacement!
Everything worked out in the end: Frankie (a truly wonderful woman) had recently met one of the finalists, Juste, from Britain and Ireland's next top model, dropped her a message, and Juste said yes!

So, here are a few behind the scenes and sneak peeks for you all!

Decided to get the EOS 300 slr which I got for £7 on ebay - finally can use my 500mm f/1.4 with film (!), it's also a lot lighter than my AE-1, which is nice sometimes. An Adaptor would probably cost more than this beauty (and take the lens down a stop, so). Excited to take some shots with it on Friday or so.

The perfect rucksack

I've been after the perfect rucksack for ages now - I do have one I use when I go to London and for shoots, but as wonderfully practical as it is, it looks really horrible. I use a canvas shoulder bag most of the time, but there's nothing worse than an aching shoulder, and my camera is heavy enough to do that within fifteen minutes.

So, Having poked about for ages, I finally saw that Asos have this absolute beauty new in (100% cotton and 100% leather), so I've bought it. Hoping it'll be as practical and comfortable as the other one - even if it isn't waterproof. If it fits some clothes my 5D in it I'll be happy.

Unbelievably excited for when it arrives.

Long time no post. I'm sorry!

A couple of weeks ago I made this headwreath thing for a test shoot. In all it took about 3 hours to make and looked a little Royal Ascot, but for £20, it isn't half bad!

The shoot was for a magazine which unfortunately decided to release without me, but I'm hoping that the lovelies at Thirst For Vision will take it for their summer issue, so until then here's a really crappy ~preview~ of some of the shots I'm still editing.

As soon as I can I'll post the final edits and stuff - there are a few over on my flickr for now.

A while ago I emailed INK magazine about contributing, and the lovely John said ok!

Preview for the editorial based on knitwear. I shouldn't really show you all I guess but having used this as a preview to show several I decided to put it on flickr and here to announce I'd actually managed to do something successful and productive, haha.

I'm admittedly hugely nervous about it all, but you know. I always am about everything so.

Sooo, here are a few things I've been published in since beginning my photographic journey. It's so exciting to see my images on something other than my camera or computer screen!

I really hope this upward journey continues - thank you anyone and everyone who has supported me so far, it honestly means the world to me!

In order: What Digital Camera October issue, A Stop Photography (my friends independent book, started on Flickr), and Photography Monthly's "World of Photography" bookzine.

I submitted images to WDC and got a good response, although I didn't necessarily expect to get featured -or if I did, maybe a photospread as they do, but instead I was put in the "Evening Class" and won £65 of photo paper. I only found out when I got the paper in the post!

The "Evening Class" is basically a photoshop pro looking at your images and (kind of annoyingly, I find) editing anything they think will improve the image - however, needless to say all he did to mine was edit out 2 strands of hair between her eyes which are hardly noticeable. I have no real complaints, however!

Same pretty much goes for the bookzine - a lovely surprise to get an email saying you've been published!

As said in the post below this one, I also shot for INK magazine after contacting them about submitting work, so I'm hopeful I'll be in there for the Winter issue. Had a great shot with Tom and Jade from Bookings, and I hope I can post some previews up soon.

I'm not sure if it all was my strongest work, but it was still great to know that I might be getting some more exposure.

This guy is amazing. My friend and usual (very talented and amazing) assistant Becca shot with him first and said I had to.

SO glad I did. He really just..owns it. He has so much energy, enthusiasm and kindness the shoot was so much fun. He's gone back to Greece now, but I really hope I get to work with him again one day!

I have so many more to edit at some point. Second image isn't photoshopped (minus curves, colours, etc. Basics) - I "freelensed" which is like cheap tilt0shifting basically. I really want to do more of it to see if I can get more accurate.

So my first magazine submission shoot didn't go as planned - I won't be in the magazine because we basically ran out of light. I got to work with an amazing team though so huge, huge epic thanks to them!

Also the first image (top) can be seen in Jillian's online book at M&P, which at least gives me hope to see if I can test with their models at a later date (I'm yet to email them, I want to get another good shoot done first!)

Camera update - hurrah!

I'm so excited - I have anew camera! Thank to a great friend, I've been able to get my mits on a 5D (not the mk2). It's second hand but it an amazing condition and I got a few extras (12 gbs of memory, E4 battery grip + 4 regular batteries and etc) which is all really great.

I have 3 or so important shoots this month so finally having a full frame dslr makes me feel a lot more confident - obviously the camera doesn't make you a better photographer, but it'll certainly be a helpful step-up from my 400D (I've been finding it very limiting recently, and at last I can get the full potential out of my cheap-and-cheerful 50mm f/1.8!)

Below are two images I snapped using the 5D - a crappy self portrait (sorry for obvious skin edits, my skin is awful this Autumn), and an unedited coffee table and mug shot haha. I love the colours and clarity of the last image - I can't wait to use this camera in a more official capacity and show everyone what I have planned.

I bought a coat like this from Ebay the other day (black faux fur bomber style jacket from New Look, photo is TOPSHOP, but pretty much identical) - genuinely looked like my cat had been delivered in the post when I got it! Can't wait to wear it.

Also, this came in the post today! Sterling silver Ox skull ring :) it's a it smaller than I thought, but it's so lovely. Also from ebay.

I hopefully have a shoot up in London next week (!) so with a few ideas I went searching through editorials on Noir Façade (a brilliant livejournal community resource) to create a mood board as a means of working out the main shots I want to take. Unlike the last time I was in London, I'm going to take my Canon AE-1, so I'll definitely aim to take a roll or two on film depending on how it works out!

I really do love the concepts involving pastels and nude in an urban backdrop, as well the simplistic styling - it's something I really want to work into my next shoot as I found I've swamped myself with a lot of natural locations, which can potential be quite limiting as I'm building up a portfolio.

A few more of Cyan Cheung in Léafric Designs. Absolutely loved this shoot - I have so many photos to go through and 3 films to have developed. Ohhh.

If I'm honest, some of the edits have been harder than others - I find portraits easier and often my camera captures those shots easier - the image is sharper, etc. also it;'s a portrait lens too, so you know (I need a new leeeeeennnns, ugh), but hopefully some of the full body shots on the film will come out.

I think the issue is probably having a good photo, but finding the overall composition not as "inspiring" as others, so it's a challenge to work with it against stonger edits. Also, as my friend Becca said (she asissted the shoot and also got some incredible photos from it!), what I prefer might not be what someone else does, so it's always hit and miss and good to have a second eye to run over your work.

Thank you, also for sll your amazing comments, I'm sorry I'm so bad at replying but I honestly read them all.

I dunno, but I'd loved working through these photos - expect more soon, probably!

Long time no update, because I'm lazy and have nothing new to share - so I though I'd put these three shots from the shoot I assisted for :)
All three are film and unedited. God I love the AE-1 so much: full frame sensor so 50 mm lens is super. ahjdjfkalajkfhjla<3

I'm currently in th midst of planning about 5 shoots this summer, which is actually driving me a little insane: models seems to be all okay'd plus two make up artists, not I just need the stylists to say yes. HURRY UP GUYS.

Soooo today I was supposed to have a shoot (first with me as the main photographer) but sadly my model was ill, so we had to cancel. Very disappointed! I'm setting up some other shoots around and about anyway, and assisting a friend next Friday, but still :(

However, it was (ridiculously) hot and sunny, so I tottered around the garden in my new shoes and took some photos. Naff photos, but you know!

WISTERIA chiffon wedges. I LOVE YOU SO. I also bought two waistcoats from H&M and wore them together with a t-shirt I got for about £3 in a charity shop. I will be wearing this look again! I really shouldn't have bought them, but the general consensus is that they're so beautiful my purchase was justified - they're a perfect addition for something whimsical, girly and summery to my mostly-black and shoe/boot filled wardrobe.

Also, I ordered (about 2 months ago) some zebra print wedges that have turned out to be exactly like the ASHISH for topshop ones, just they look cheaper, and WERE cheaper (£50, bargain!) I'll get some better photos, but they're amazing:

It's nice to be average height. Shame it just takes 5" heels for it, haha!

I've had the most amazing week. I'm SO tired, but I've been to Cardiff to meet Gareth Rhys and see Frenchie-jane again (last thursday) then ran off to London for Friday to shoot with Frenchie and the most gorgeous model and a wonderful stylist, Caitlin and Johanna. I was asissting the shoot, and it was so much fun.
I went back to London again Tuesday and wandered Oxford Street with Frenchie, then we met up with Oscar May and the gorgeous and talented Elle Hardwick. I feel so lucky to be making friends with so many talented and lovely people!

I found these on (evil and beloved) Topshop last month. I'm not usually one for flat shoes, but I instantly fell in love - I would have bought them but I had no money and I wasn't 100% sure. Now that I am, and I can afford them, they've disappeared from the website. Wtf topshop. I'M SO LOYAL TO YOU.

They remind me an awful lot of The Swing by Fragonard - mostly just the tonal aspects (subtle blues, greens and nudes) and for that I find myself loving the classical feel to them. French Aristocrat perhaps? Maybe.

I live a lot in doc martens, and right now I'm so in the mood for something a bit more fresh and delicate. Blargh. I think I might console myself and purchase some floral ditsy tights instead tomorrow. I like the idea of white tights, but know me they'd be grey in an hour, so something patterned is a compromise!

A few friends came over today, and after the sun disappeared from the garden we migrated to the field opposite my house. The gorgeous Emilie put on some make up and her scarf on her head so John and I took some photos. Woul dhave been nice if the sun had stuck around, but it was annoyingly cloudy today.

Also a quick snap from Emilie doing the "YEAH VOGUE LOOK AT MUH HAIR".

I took a few photos from this afternoon on my AE-1, so I'll try to get them developed tomorrow with whatever else is at the beginning of the film (and whatever I do to use the end up!).

I was walking to meet my parents in Bath today with a friend, and along the way we passed a few flea market stalls and said friend, John, spotted this! I got him to ask the man running the stall how much he was selling it for, and he said £4. £4! It's now mine, needless to say!
I'm really excited. I looked for and found a 620 film spool for £5 on eBay, and all I need to do now is buy some 120 film (which I think I'll do now before impatience gets the better of me!) and off I go! I really can't wait. I've always wanted to try something like this and now I can.
It's in great condition to. The only part that's missing it something to aid winding the film on, but with pliers it works fine, so, haha.

I can't wait to start shotting.

So once again I took advantage of the gorgeous sunshine, and took some photos on the roof just outside of my bedroom.
I wouldn't necessarily call any of these photos very ~creative or original, but as a friend said (hello, Imogen!) taking photos of yourself enables you to learn an awful lot, and it seems a shame not to do this whilst the light and opportunity is about. Again, fun too!

These are the ones I have edited so far and probably the ones that came out the best.
Used PS7 for colour and contrast, and that's mostly all the edits that have been done aside from a few marks.

Camera remote!

I finally bought a cheap camera remote from Amazon. It's not the best out there but it works, and for £5 including postage I'm not complaining (er, yet). I snapped some rather contrived shots over the last few days as fun and tests to get used to it.

They're relatively crap shots (at least, the last I'm not too fond of, haha), but you know, I enjoyed the sunshine and having fun the most! It's not worth it if you're not having fun, either :) The top and middle two were taken late afternoon on my roof, and the other two outside in the garden (as you might guess).
I fully intend to be more creative/less contrived in the near future, but gosh, not today!

Feel free to laugh - my face looks weird and I ALWAYS seem to look like I'm frowning or cross, haha. So that's not intentional at all. I'll try to re-shape my eyebrwos at some point.
Oh, and cheap (ancient) lipstick? Fail too, but you know. That's what happens when Boots is closed on a Sunday and you fancy taking photos.

However, INSPIRE meet up inspired me to try and well..do more. I have no models and I need to practice at shooting bodies/faces, so I'm using myself.

I should get my remote this week too, which will make life easier. I'll work on more failtraits next week if we have some sun, in other words

I'm actually a novice when it comes to designers/high fashion and what have you, but I'd like to think I know what I like when I see it. I can pick off a few names, but, you know, I'm basically a girl who lives in doc martens.

However, that being said last month I bought a pair of black wedges for £35 (!) off ebay, and although they're cheaply made (only really noticeable when you look up close) I'm in love with them.

It's not as if I can actually afford expensive shoes, but with the above lovelies in mind, I'm thinking of saving up to buy some Jeffry Campbell wedges.

Specifically these:

I've looked at other wedges (Ashish for Topshop, which is still on my wish list - the Zebra print mostly, because, well, black and white goes with everything. I'm not sure if I could pull off leopard print anyway).

So. I trawled eBay and fell in love with the JC wedges.

I just find them very aesthetically pleasing (she says, wondering why you wouldn't buy a pair of shoes that weren't) and I've wanted something more elegant as of late. That, and they have a sort of..erm...not clumpy, but something, element to them without distracting you from the overall shape.

I'll never stop loving my small (but growing) collection of DM's, however, but wantwantwant.

First post and INSPIRE London meet

To be honest, I have no idea how long my fascination with this will last (a week, a month.. you know), but I'd like a place I can blog about less personal things and include a shit load of photos, so here goes!
First thing on the list - INSPIRE.Last Friday I went to a meet up of both amateur and professional photographers in Hyde Park, London, organised by the both lovely and very talented Felix Kunze and Lara Jade. Over all it was a fantastic day for everyone, and although I just took my camera (and my friend Becca) along without any form of portfolio, I made lots of new friends and contacts.You can read Felix and Lara's blogs on the day (plus photos from other participants!) here (Felix) and here (Lara).
They both talk about other events for INSPIRE occurring later this year, and any I'm able to get to I will definitely attend.
